Physiotherapy profile raised at Newham show

CSP members were on hand to raise the profile of physiotherapy with local decision makers at the mayor’s Newham show in East Ham, east London, on 8-9 July.

The five members – Efren Lagat, Paula Coelho, Inge Vermeulen, Philomena Annan and Angelina Ansah – staffed the society’s stall in a public health-themed marquee.

Catherine Chappell, CSP campaigns and regional engagement officer, was there too, helping to give out W@W, Back Pain Myth Busters and other CSP materials.

‘Our number one aim was to promote physiotherapy to the public,’ said Ms Chappell.

‘But members also took the opportunity to make contact with other exhibitors, including GPs, politicians, clinical commissioning group staff and many public health officers from the council.’

She said she was ‘amazed’ at the breadth of queries that the physiotherapists handled – ranging from posture to hip pain, from asthma to women’s health.

Right next to the CSP stall was another run by the local Day Hospital falls clinic, with two more CSP members, Ngalita Mbelo and Krzysztof Czajkowski, on duty.
