The political climate around Covid-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement have highlighted the need to show solidarity with Black, Asian and minority ethnic members and colleagues against the evils of racism internationally, including in the UK. On 3 June, the CSP issued this solidarity statement on Twitter.
‘We stand in solidarity with our Black, Asian and minority ethnic members and colleagues against the evil of racism that infects societies across the world – including here in the UK.
‘The shocking death of George Floyd demonstrated a hatred that Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities here face daily, whether through overt racism or more insidious, unspoken discrimination.
‘It runs through society at all levels and in all walks of life and demands us all to take action, whether by supporting structural, political change or by confronting and defeating it when we witness it in our everyday lives.
‘It is only through solidarity that we can deliver unity and a future where our Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities can leave their homes without fear and in the knowledge that they will never face hatred for the colour of their skin.’
