2023/24 pay dispute ends with funding for outstanding non-NHS organisations

The CSP has welcomed the government’s announcement confirming  the non-NHS organisations in England that will receive funding to enable them to pay eligible staff, including physiotherapy staff, the one-off payments from the NHS deal in 2023/24.

CSP assistant director Elaine Sparkes said: ‘This is good news for our members and long overdue.

'Many of the non-NHS employers, which includes social enterprises, had already made the payment to staff on Agenda for Change (AfC) contracts – but we were aware of a number of outstanding employers that had not paid but were likely to meet the government criteria.

This will finally mean those staff can also receive payment.

As part of the NHS pay deal for 2023/24 eligible staff within the NHS received two one-off payments - worth at least £1,655 and up to £3,000.

These payments originally only applied to those directly employed by NHS organisations on AfC contracts. However, following pressure, including from the CSP,  the government launched a scheme to provide non-NHS organisations the opportunity to apply for funding to cover the cost of the one-off payments for their eligible staff on this occasion. The scheme is now complete and all organisations have been informed of their outcome.

The payments will be provided to organisations which deliver NHS and Public Health Grant services who employ their staff on dynamically linked Agenda for Change contracts.

Eligible organisations will be contacted by NHS England or the Department of Health and Social Care and provided with the funding as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately this is likely to still leave some staff who provide NHS services without the payment if they are not on dynamic AfC contracts, added Elaine.

The funding settlement – along with the news that members in Northern Ireland have accepted the pay offer made there – brings to an end the CSP’s 2023/24 pay disputes.
