Ms South, who works with a vanguard community team based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said the postural supports enable her team to improve bed positioning for frail, contractured care home residents as part of its physiotherapy programme.

‘The postural supports are part of the package that we provide for residents with postural support needs,’ she said.

‘We recommend appropriate analgesia, teach the care staff how to carry out stretches, do seating assessments with occupational therapists and sometimes Botox injections.’

The vanguard team, one of 50 around England selected to lead new care models, was featured in Frontline
