Ways to participate
Quick actions (Under one hour)
These flexible and straightforward actions are perfect for getting started!
CSP Diversity Networks on social media:
- BAME Network – X: @cspbame; Instagram: cspbame; LinkedIn: CSPBAME Network
- DisAbility Network – X: @cspdisability; Facebook: Request to connect (network members only)
- LGBTQIA+ Network – X: @csplgbtqia, Instagram: csplgbtqia, Facebook: csplgbtqia; request to join the private group (network members only).
- Join the community – Become a network member (where eligible) and connect through our online spaces on iCSP and WhatsApp (email to request access). Stay up to date with the latest news, share your experiences, and join conversations that shape the future of our trade union and profession.
- Spread the word – Follow and engage with the networks' social media accounts. This helps amplify key messages and raise awareness about equity and inclusion within the profession.
- Support equity, diversity, and belonging – Display our free posters and flyers in your workplace or university.
Download our Diversity Networks flyer and Trans Allyship booklets. You must be logged into your CSP account to access the platform. A how-to guide is available. - Support and empower others – Encourage colleagues and peers to connect with the diversity networks and share CSP resources on equity, diversity, and belonging. Explore guidance on discrimination, allyship, workplace rights, and campaigning via the Diversity Network Resources webpage.
Moderate participation (one to three hours)
If you have a bit more time, these flexible actions can be done monthly or when convenient.
- Learn and engage – Attend virtual events open to all members hosted by the diversity networks and the CSP, such as our member webinars and Organising Clinics, to stay informed, develop your activism and expand your connections. Can’t make it live? Catch up anytime by watching past sessions, accessing presentation materials, or requesting access to exclusive webinars available to network members.
- Shape events and share your voice – Get involved by helping to plan or host a network event or representing your network at CSP events and speaking on key issues and lived experiences that matter to members in the workplace and in education. As allies you can encourage the networks you are a part of to consider event topics relating to equity, diversity and belonging. Contact your network committee to discuss ideas, and explore opportunities for support with speaking and event planning.
- Share your experience – We’re always looking for members interested in sharing their lived experiences and creating content for important days we have chosen to mark as part of our EDB communications. This includes content from allies of the LGBTQIA+, BAME and Disability communities. This content is often shared across CSP channels, such as Frontline magazine and social media. Register your interest in volunteering to help the CSP create content as part of our equity, diversity and belonging work.
Deeper involvement (three hours to two days)
Ideal if you're ready to step up in a bigger, one-off way – mostly in person, but with some remote possibilities.
- Take part in the Annual Diversity Networks Day – If you're a member of a CSP diversity network, join this one-day, in-person event that brings together members from the three diversity networks. The day focuses on fostering intersectionality, empowering activists and advocates, and building a supportive community committed to meaningful change. Free to attend.
- Influence CSP policy and amplify diverse perspectives – Represent your network at the Annual Representative Conference (ARC). Participate in debates, submit, speak to and respond to motions, and join fringe meetings on key policy topics. (In-person, over two days). Free to attend. Contact the national officer, Siân Caulfield, for more information about the process and conference dates.
- Influence national change and amplify diverse voices – Represent the CSP at one or more of the TUC Equality Conferences, which offer a powerful platform to champion equality, build solidarity, and influence the agenda of the wider trade union movement. (In-person, over two days). Free to attend. For more information about the process and conference dates, please contact administrative officer Gill Feldman.
- Play an active role in shaping the CSP Annual Conference and student conference – Propose sessions that showcase EDB experiences or foster connection and collaboration, and take up opportunities to represent your network, facilitate discussions, and share your perspective, either in person or remotely (1-2 days, flexible). Ticket costs vary. Funding support is available.
Ongoing commitment (one or more hour per week)
Step into a leadership or ambassador role - still flexible, often remote.
- Build collective power and grow as a leader – Join a diversity network committee to help shape the network's direction and strengthen its voices across the profession. No prior experience needed, time commitment is flexible, remote with occasional optional in-person opportunities. Contact your relevant network for more details or an informal chat.
- Make a difference in your workplace or student community – Become a CSP workplace rep or student rep. Get trained and supported to represent and support your local colleagues or peers effectively.
- Lead inclusive events and meaningful discussions – Connect and collaborate with members of the CSP and beyond to organise inclusive events, meetings and other activities to raise awareness of the diversity networks, share EDB perspectives, and build supportive professional communities.
