Vacancy details

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is an independent charity that provides exceptional end of life care and support to patients and their families in Poole and the Purbecks. We are beginning an exciting new phase in the story of our local hospice having recently moved our services to Longfleet Road in Poole, with outreach to Swanage, Wareham and Wimborne. We are currently looking for a full or part-time Better Breathing Specialist to join our team and deliver an exciting expansion of our sustainable services into the community bringing life limiting care closer to home.

The post will develop and expand our established Better Breathing clinic and provide skilled care and expertise in respiratory management for all patients referred to us, demonstrating competent clinical judgement in deciding patient focused goals and plans.

Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services, you will work closely with the integrated community teams and our satellite services in Wimborne, Wareham and Swanage. This key role will engage with patients early in their trajectory in order to have a maximum impact on their quality of life. Empowering patients with respiratory problems caused by cancer, COPD or other life threatening pulmonary conditions, you will work with them to develop strategies that will enable them to manage breathlessness and related symptoms for an improved quality of life.

You must be a qualified physiotherapist or registered nurse with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience and extensive knowledge and training in respiratory physiology and practice. You will have an excellent understanding of the non-pharmacological approach to the management of breathlessness and the processes of rehabilitation and social inclusion and will have robust experience of developing services, teaching patient groups and one to ones. We expect you to have experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and a good understanding of community services, with an awareness of national initiatives in palliative respiratory care. You will also support the Lewis-Manning Hospice Care brand and values, raising awareness of our charity and services. We look forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you to our growing and well supported team.
