Strikes, sickness absence and exercise – January in the media

Physiotherapy is featuring prominently in the media in 2024.

The BBC reported live from pickets as members in Northern Ireland took strike action over pay, and physiotherapy got some significant air time with CSP reps also doing live interviews on Irish Radio and Bloomberg.

Elsewhere, the CSP website was highlighted in an article by the Daily Express as being a great source of information and advice for MSK issues which could be especially helpful for people stuck on long waiting lists.

A substantial piece in the Guardian on the record number of people currently on long-term sick leave because of back and neck ailments featured CSP chair of council Ishmael Beckford calling for better investment in rehab services, while FCP Sam Bhide discussed the causes of back pain and the impact on patients.

Rounding of the month, CSP council member Leanne Antoinne spoke to the Times about the benefits of resistance bands whilst training and CSP senior negotiating officer Claire Ronald was quoted in the Belfast News Letter on a further development around pay in Northern Ireland.
