New governance hub for independent practitioners launched

The CSP with Physio First have collaborated to create a digital resource to support members working in the independent sector.

The resource takes a physio, whether self-employed or working within a business, through all the aspects of governance including health and safety and clinical governance.

During the last year, services across the independent sector were hit hard by the impact of the pandemic; there were many requests for the CSP to particularly support members in this sector to navigate the frameworks, policies and procedures that needed to be in place to ensure a safe and effective patient environment was created.

The content includes

  • exploring the impact and requirements placed by the legal, regulatory and professional frameworks
  • supporting members with business planning activities.

In addition, CSP and Physio First have updated their joint resource Private Physiotherapy Practice – The Essential Guide for those members considering starting a new business.

CSP professional adviser Sara Conroy said: ‘Listening to our independent sector members we understood that more specific guidance was needed to enable physiotherapists manage the additional pressures placed on services by the pandemic.

'We hope it gives clarity to all that the CSP can offer. We will continue to develop these resources with Physio First and feedback from this sector.'

Physio First spokeswoman Pam Simpson added: 'It was really useful to work so closely with CSP colleagues on this and to help members understand that CSP fully supports independent practice but to highlight simply what the extra membership of Physio First can offer.'
