About our Trust

Our Trust is rated as ‘Outstanding for Caring’ by the CQC – fundamental to this is the way that we value and respect our staff. At every level, we value the diversity of our colleagues and actively champion an inclusive culture. We believe that everyone without exception should feel free to be their authentic self in the workplace.

We understand that work is only one part of life. We are committed to helping our colleagues achieve the best possible work/life balance. We proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment and flexible working policies. We have a wide range of professional services and employee networks to help our colleagues be at their best - and find support if they need it.

Our Trust is already a Disability Confident employer and we are holding ourselves to account through the Workplace Disability Equality Standard (WDES). Our work on promoting equity and inclusion for our Black, and Minority Ethnic (BME) colleagues continues to be driven by engagement with the WRES (Workforce Race Equality Standard) and the WRES Experts Programme.

In 2019, we committed ourselves to becoming a Stonewall Top 100 LGBTQ+ Employer. We also support the national ‘Veteran Aware’ scheme and are an ERS Gold accredited Hospital who welcomes applications from all members of the Armed Forces communities.

For our patients, we do everything we can to deliver fair access to all our services. This includes providing interpretative and other services to meet the needs of disabled communities. We're careful to show sensitivity towards ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Our staff uphold these values and so help our care to get better all the time.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 6 Specialist Hand Therapist to join our growing and busy out-patient Hand Service in Brighton.

We are looking for a dynamic, resourceful, and motivated Band 6 Hand Therapist with highly developed interpersonal skills to join our specialist, Regional Hand Therapy Service that receives referrals from our 5 Hand Consultants and the Virtual Hand & Wrist Fracture Clinic.

You will be an Occupational Therapist or a Physiotherapist with experience of, or interest in, assessing and treating a variety of hand injuries and conditions that may include fractures, soft-tissue repairs and reconstructions, elective and chronic conditions. You will be keen to develop your Hand Therapy clinical skills whilst developing greater responsibilities in caseload and service development. We have an established competency framework to support your learning and encourage professional development opportunities. We can offer you regular supervision, in-service training, and peer learning in a friendly multidisciplinary working atmosphere. There will also be the opportunity to work within our established Virtual Hand Fracture Clinic and lead Wrist Groups (virtual and face-to-face).

The successful candidate will be self-directed, analytical, reflective, and committed to this area of specialism.

Applicants without Hand Therapy experience will need to demonstrate their understanding of the profession and identify transferable clinical and professional skills to this setting in their application.

About Us:

We are a team of 6 Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and are fully integrated within the Hand Service which includes Hand Consultants, Registrars, Nurses, Plaster Technicians, and Hand Administration team. We work closely together to ensure the continued delivery of high quality, effective care and rehabilitation.

We work across two sites The Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital, Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre, within a complex organisation which has a range of core and specialist services including the adult Major Trauma Centre for the South East coast, which provides specialised care for severely injured patients from Chichester in the west towards Hastings and parts of Kent in the east.

We operate a five-day service (Monday – Friday) 8 – 16:00.

Flexible working hours are available.

Interview date: November 3rd, 2020 (face-to-face, virtual available)
