We’re looking for senior healthcare professionals to join our team in DWP. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in the UK’s largest Civil Service Department. We touch the lives of citizens at the length and breadth of the UK.

What we do matters.

We serve over 22 million customers a year and, more than ever, DWP is playing a critical role in supporting citizens through the economic impact of COVID-19. We keep children out of poverty; we help people without jobs to find work so that they can support themselves and their families; we ensure the most vulnerable in society are protected.

We aspire to be a truly inclusive employer and welcome applications to help us reflect the citizens we serve. We promote “I can be me in DWP” to help us create a place to work where everyone feels they can be valued, respected and supported. With DWP you will have access to our flexible working and family friendly policies and can expect to work standard office hours between Monday and Friday.

DWP has started an ambitious programme to transform the experiences of the 2 million people who need a health assessment as part of their eligibility for DWP benefits. In the Health Transformation Programme (HTP), our ambition is to deliver an improved experience for people who require a health assessment to determine their eligibility for a number of benefits by making the assessment process simpler for claimants.

As a Senior Disability Assessor in a unique team of Healthcare Professionals you will have the opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of the most vulnerable in society.

The heart of this role, and of our programme, is all about delivering quality assessments and a positive experience for claimants. You will put your clinical experience and expertise to good use by personally completing assessments and providing reports and advice to decision makers for a range of benefits. You will lead a team of disability assessors, providing mentorship and coaching to help new entrants complete assessments to the same high standards you will set.

You’ll take on the challenge of supporting the Clinical Lead, acting a second point of contact for clinical advice and support and deputising in their absence. You will be confident working autonomously in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Our programme is transformational – in some roles there is the opportunity to be a trailblazer, piloting new innovative ways of working and identifying improvements for progressing health assessments through your own work on the frontline of our operations.

We’re really excited about this opportunity. If you feel the same, and you have the skills, experience and enthusiasm to be one of our Senior Disability Assessors, then we look forward to hearing from you.

In return for your skills, we offer a competitive salary and a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 27.1%.

You’ll also get a generous leave package starting at 25 days, plus all the usual bank holidays.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexi hours and up to 3 extra flexi days off a month
  • Family-friendly policies and maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave pay that go beyond the statutory minimum.
  • Time off for volunteering and charitable giving
  • Bring your authentic self to work with ‘I Can Be Me in DWP’
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it’s even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
  • Sports and social activities
