This is a new post within the MSK Community Physiotherapy Service; applications are invited from experienced personal trainers and/or fitness professionals. You will work alongside the MSK physiotherapy team, to provide lifestyle support and high-level rehabilitation for the patients referred to us from primary care.
Specific delivery of professional exercise therapy skills will augment the work of the Physiotherapy Service and lead patients progressively from healthcare to on-going self-management and activity in the community following discharge.
You will carry-out routine interventions as directed by the physiotherapist, recording outcome measures of your interventions and documenting all care provided. Running gym based classes requires good organisational and communication skills coupled with an attention to detail ensuring all aspects of patient safety. There are a range of additional duties such as providing patients with introductions to gym equipment to ensure it is used safely, maintenance of equipment and ensuring compliance with infection control standards in the clinical areas.
The MSK service provides regular training opportunities for all staff as well as 1:1 supervision. This offers an opportunity to develop your own skills and knowledge of Physiotherapy as well as sharing new ideas around exercise prescription and lifestyle promotion. This position will assist in building strong links between physiotherapy and leisure services so that we enable patients to self-manage their health conditions in the longer term.
The post holder will work as an integral part of the MSK community team. You will be primarily based at Exeter Community Hospital but you will be expected to travel to other sites in Exeter as and when required.
