The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,200.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.6 billion.

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences offers teaching programmes from entry level BSc (Hons) for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy to PhD.  There are over 60 faculty members in the disciplines of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences in the Department.  The main translational research programmes in the Department are Complementary and Integrative Health in the East-West Context, Translational Neuroscience and Rehabilitation: Sensori-motor Systems, Translational Neuroscience and Rehabilitation: Cognitive-affective Systems, Musculoskeletal and Sport Rehabilitation, Healthy Aging,   Neuroscience and Neurological Rehabilitation, Orthopaedic and Sports Rehabilitation, East-meets-West in Rehabilitation Sciences and Geriatric Rehabilitation.  It also operates a Rehabilitation Clinic which is the hub for clinical teaching and consultancy services to the community.  The Department puts equal emphases on basic, applied and clinical research relevant to the theory and technology development in rehabilitation.  Besides, the Department has taken the lead in incorporating Chinese therapeutics into the academic curricula which is unique worldwide.  The vision and passion of the Department is “Touching Lives, Making An Impact”.  For more information about the Department, please visit the website at http://www.rs.polyu.edu.hk/.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    engage in four areas of teaching work including facilitation of learning and development, development of curriculum and pedagogy, management of subjects and programmes and promotion of teaching quality among peers;

(b)    take up educational leadership in all areas of teaching activities, particularly in teaching innovations and educational research in physiotherapy or occupational therapy including actively pursuing educational research grants and producing scholarly works;

(c)    contribute to programme development leading to substantial enhancement in the quality of educational provision;

(d)    be in charge of the clinical education including leading the whole team of the clinical education and liaising with external stakeholders;

(e)    establish and implement strategic plan for supporting clinical service development;

(f)    provide clinical services at the Rehabilitation Centre or other clinical settings;

(g)    contribute to professional development and serve professional associations strategically; and

(h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a PhD or a professional doctorate degree in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Education or a related discipline;

(b)    possess at least ten years of relevant post-qualification experience with substantial experience in higher education;

(c)    have a proven track record in teaching excellence that creates deep and lasting impact on student learning and development;

(d)    have proven educational leadership in teaching innovation and significant contributions to improve teaching quality and promote a culture of good teaching at department level or beyond and other forms of contributions leading to system-wide impact; and

(e)    have a proven track record in leading innovation in education and/or scholarship of teaching and learning as evidenced by teaching development grants or other funding obtained related to teaching and learning projects as well as high-impact scholarly works or publications and educational research output.

Preference will be given to those with a registrable qualification in Hong Kong in either Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy and experience in administration of clinical services.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  An appropriate term will be provided for appointment to the Principal Clinical Associate post.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
