CURE has an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and skilled Physical Therapist/Therapy Department Lead at its hospital in Malawi. This position represents a unique opportunity for a challenging and fulfilling career in improving the standard of health of a community. The Physical Therapist/Therapy Department Lead is responsible for providing treatment for physical problems resulting from illness, injury or disability, and for assisting with the rehabilitation process by developing and restoring the functions of the body, enabling patients to improve their mobility.  The Physical Therapist/Therapy Department Lead is also responsible for building the therapy program, as well as providing training to a Physical Therapist (National) (if available), with an intended outcome of ensuring the long-term sustainability of the therapy program

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide assessment, as well as plan for the care delivery of a range of physical treatments to resolve, restore or maintain physical conditions.

  • Provide treatment to reduce pain, increase mobility and limit secondary functional disability by providing effective and evaluated individualized programs of care.

  • Teach and train other staff members as needed.

  • Make recommendations to the Medical Director on the appropriate set-up and protocols in the initial implementation of the therapy program and in order to continually advance standards.

  • Develop a personal development plan for the physical therapy team for the next three (3) years.

  • Develop a business plan for the physical therapy team along with Physical Therapist (National) counterpart for the next two (2) years.   

  • Demonstrate ongoing personal development by undertaking relevant trainings including CME activities as may be organized inside or outside of the hospital.

Qualified candidates for this position will possess the following:​

  • Physical therapy degree or diploma from qualified, recognized institution.

  • Current and unrestricted license to practice as a physical therapist.  

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in private practice, hospital or rehabilitation facility.  

  • Experience in the developing world strongly preferred.
