Who are we?

Connect Health are one of the largest independent providers of Musculoskeletal (MSK) services in the UK, employing over 200 MSK physiotherapists across the country. Our primary focus it to provide quality, patient-centred care across all our services. We see more patients with MSK problems than any other NHS provider in the UK, and our patient-centred care pathways mean that people see the right clinician, at the right time, in a community-based location that is convenient to them. As an organisation owned and led by clinicians, with over 25 years of experience in delivering services to the NHS our exclusive focus on MSK allows us to remain innovative and responsive to deliver clinical quality with a patient-centred approach.

Our Service in Essex

The South West Essex Community Pain Service is an exciting community-based service that was commissioned in February 2017. It provides a single-point of access for NHS patients referred by their GP with MSK conditions, and offers fast and effective physiotherapy-led treatment as well as expert clinical assessment, diagnostics and onward referral, all from local and convenient community settings. The South West Essex team includes MSK Physiotherapists, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, GPs with special interest in Pain, Rheumatology consultants, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and Rehabilitation Therapists providing care for patients with musculoskeletal pain as well as complex persistent pain and non-urgent rheumatology conditions. The integrated service design allows clinicians to work together to deliver seamless and evidence based care for patients.

About the role

Our integrated MSK service includes pathways of care specifically designed for the management of patients with complex persistent pain delivered in the community. This includes patients referred by their GP specifically for a pain management approach, as well as patients cross-referred from the Rheumatology and MSK arms of our service.

The Physiotherapist with interest in Pain Management will work closely with our established pain specialist clinicians to deliver multidisciplinary and multi-modal patient care which may involve individual clinical assessments and management, pain education seminars, pain management programmes, and psychological and pharmacological interventions.

There may be some expectation to work within the MSK arm of the service, and therefore competence of working autonomously in an MSK outpatient setting is preferable. Through working across two arms of our service the Physiotherapist with interest in Pain Management will play a key role in maintaining successful integration of pain management and routine MSK care delivery for clinicians and patients within the locality.

Who we’re looking for

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competencies relevant to Pain Management in Physiotherapy. They will have experience of using biopsychosocial consultation skills in the management of sometimes complex patients, and of applying advanced clinical consultation skills in communication which could involve utilising techniques such as motivational interviewing, ACT, CBT. In addition, they’ll utilise musculoskeletal expertise to function as a Physiotherapist in Pain Management managing a varied clinical caseload within designated clinical environments.

Suitable candidates might be working at NHS Band 6 or 7 in MSK or Pain Management roles and have a desire to pursue a new challenge in an exciting new service. They will be seeking a development opportunity to improve their skills in the management of persistent pain.
