Our Service in Essex
The South West Essex Community Pain Service is an exciting community-based service that was commissioned in February 2017. It provides a single-point of access for NHS patients referred by their GP with MSK conditions, and offers fast and effective physiotherapy-led treatment as well as expert clinical assessment, diagnostics and onward referral. The South West Essex team includes MSK Physiotherapists, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, GPs with special interest in Pain, Rheumatology consultants, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and Rehabilitation Therapists providing care for patients with musculoskeletal pain as well as complex persistent pain and non-urgent rheumatology conditions. The integrated service design allows clinicians to work together to deliver seamless and evidence based care for patients.
About the role
Our integrated MSK service includes pathways of care specifically designed for the management of patients with complex persistent pain delivered in the community. This includes patients referred by their GP specifically for a pain management approach, as well as patients cross-referred from the Rheumatology and MSK arms of our service.
To be responsible for clinical delivery of the pain service and the responsibility for the clinical and operational support of the Senior MSK Physiotherapists working within the service.
They will be responsible for the multidisciplinary and multi-modal patient care which may involve individual clinical assessments and management, pain education seminars, pain management programmes, and psychological and pharmacological interventions. In order to maintain and improve upon the clinical quality throughout the service attendance to internal and external clinical and operational meetings will be expected. The successful candidate will work alongside Physiotherapists, Rehab Therapists, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and a GP with special interest.
Who we’re looking for
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competencies relevant to Pain Management in Physiotherapy. They will have experience of using biopsychosocial consultation skills in the management of sometimes complex patients, and of applying advanced clinical consultation skills in communication which could involve utilising techniques such as motivational interviewing, ACT, CBT. In addition, they’ll utilise musculoskeletal expertise to function as a Physiotherapist in Pain Management managing a varied clinical caseload within designated clinical environments. We are looking for a pioneering clinician who can implement new ways of working to the benefit of our patients and staff members and ensures the service is able to meet Key Performance Indicators.
