Senior Paediatric Physiotherapists

Main Area: Therapies

Grade: Band 6

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full and Part time hours negotiable.

Sites: Various bases available

Town: Caerphilly, Newport, Abergavenny

Opportunities have arisen for enthusiastic physiotherapists to join the children’s physiotherapy team based within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Ideally you will have experience of working within paediatrics, however you may have alternative skills which are transferable to our service. We would be keen to hear from you if you have a musculoskeletal, respiratory or neurological physiotherapy experience and have treated children or young people in some capacity such as on-call or in an outpatient environment. Successful applicants will be experienced clinicians.

We are looking for self-motivated and forward thinking clinicians who are strong team players with the ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and excellent communication skills. The candidate would ideally possess a solid foundation in core clinical skills, although if lacking experience in some core areas there may be a possibility of gaining these skills within this role. The candidate will embrace innovation and be committed to following evidence based clinical practice.

Bases include Serennu Children’s Centre, Newport, Caerphilly Children’s Centre and Nevill Hall Children’s Centre, Abergavenny. The workload may include both acute and community cover. We cover a variety of sub specialities within paediatrics including but not exclusively; musculoskeletal, orthopaedics, special schools, developmental delay, neuro-disability, neonates, ponseti, mental health and Cystic Fibrosis.

Inpatient delivery currently is at The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport and Nevill Hall Children’s Ward. In 2021 the inpatient paediatric delivery for Aneurin Bevan will be relocated with the opening of a new critical care unit in Cwmbran. The Grange Hospital will host all inpatient paediatric services and the post holder maybe required to assist in the delivery of respiratory/orthopaedic physiotherapy services to this site.

Successful candidates will be responsible for set clinics or a caseload of children working within the community, clinic and ward setting. The successful applicant will have a primary base, but may be required to support other sites as and when required. These decisions will be based on service need but will also be mutually agreeable. A desire to work within a subspecialty area of Paediatrics could also be arranged considered.

The Physiotherapy Service encourages staff development through local and Health Board wide in-service training programmes across different specialities, as well as participation in speciality forums, clinical audit, research and clinical supervision and mentoring.

We have a structured personal appraisal system with annual reviews underpinned by the Knowledge and Skills Framework. You will be actively involved in assisting in the education and mentoring of rotational staff, physiotherapy technicians and physiotherapy students whilst on placement from Cardiff University.

Please come and speak to us to find out more about the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and opportunities we have within the service. We are holding an open evening at Serennu Children’s Centre, NP10 9LY on Wednesday 5th June 3-6 pm.
