First Contact Physiotherapy Practitioner (FCPP)

A minimum of 16 posts available for immediate appointment offering a combination of both permanent and temporary contracts.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust has an exciting opportunity to undertake a First Contact Physiotherapy Practitioner (FCPP) role in line with the Transformation of Musculoskeletal (MSK) services in Health and Social Care (HSC) Services, Northern Ireland.

‘Health and Wellbeing 2026: Delivering Together’ sets out a vision for an enhanced primary care service, within a set of reformed HSC services.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust in partnership with the Derry GP Federation will establish a Primary Care Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). This new team is aimed at enhancing the services available to people at primary care level. The team will deliver the vision set out in Delivering Together providing a holistic model of health and wellbeing which includes physical, mental and social wellbeing with a greater focus on prevention and early intervention. The teams will be community facing and will use PPI and community development approaches. The First Contact Physiotherapy Practitioner (FCPP) will operate as a key member of this team.

It is widely recognised that approximately 20 - 30% of a GP caseload relates to MSK conditions and an APP with skills such as independent prescribing, peripheral Joint injection therapy and the ability to order imaging has been demonstrated to relieve pressures on primary care and reduce referrals to secondary care

The Western Health & Social care Trust is seeking to appoint a number of outstanding Clinical Practitioners/Leaders who will provide a highly proficient standard of specialist assessment, investigation, diagnosis / clinical reasoning and management of MSK patients. These posts will be located across the Castlederg / Claudy / Derry-Londonderry / Dungiven / Limavady / Strabane areas of the WHSCT. A waiting list may also be created for any vacancies that arise within 12 months.

If you feel you are ready to take on this challenge, then we look forward to hearing from you.
