An Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner vacancy has arisen within the Physiotherapy department at NHS Orkney.

The post involves working as a MSK First Contact Physiotherapist in G.P. Practices on mainland Orkney and MSK out patients both within the Balfour, Kirkwall and in G.P. Practices. There will also be a commitment to participate in the weekend respiratory on call rota (respiratory/on-call training/supervision is available). There is also opportunity to develop and work within the Rheumatology service. We encourage innovation and the use of technology to develop services across our remote and rural landscape.

The successful candidate will be a registered chartered physiotherapist with evidence of specialist postgraduate training at MSc Level. Extensive post registration experience within musculoskeletal field and specialist knowledge of broad range of musculoskeletal conditions is essential.

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner with primarily a MSK caseload although, with working in a remote and rural setting, it helps to be flexible and have good generalist skills. Having non medical prescribing and injection qualifications would be an advantage but not essential. Training may be offered to develop this area of practice.

The Physiotherapy team is small, but very cohesive and experienced, looking to maintain their broad remit and skill mix.

The Orkney Isles are located approximately 6 miles of the northern tip of Scotland and is well serviced with air and sea links. A diverse and vibrant community of approximately 20,000 is spread over the mainland and surrounding islands. Orkney offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, good leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery.
