Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Respiratory Care

Online patient leaflets include managing SOB, ACBT, energy conservation and other breathing techniques.

Cystic Fibrosis Trust

The Trust offers an ‘Activity Unlimited’ programme for people with cystic fibrosis, including fitness training videos.


This self-management programme is designed to help people with COPD manage their condition more effectively and reduce the impact it has on their day-to-day life. It contains a range of educational topics to help an individual with COPD understand their condition better, including

  • information about medication
  • breathing control
  • exercise and nutritional advice. 

People are also encouraged to set goals and progress through a prescribed exercise programme and achieve weekly targets.

In light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, SPACE for COPD® is free of charge for three months to all NHS pulmonary rehabilitation teams.

The British Lung Foundation- Stay Active and Stay Well

The BLF’S programme has 3 levels depending on how breathless the person becomes when completing daily activities. They include video step-by-step aerobic and strength exercises. There is also an exercise handbook with includes an exercise diary.  

The British Thoracic Society

The BTS have also put together a pulmonary rehab resource pack with links to resources that are available free of charge. This can be used by people with chronic lung disease and pulmonary rehabilitation professionals while face to face pulmonary rehabilitation is not possible.
