Physio staff are being encouraged to sign up as equality champions, as part of a new campaign to create a ‘personal, fair and diverse NHS’.
The NHS Employers Equality Unit has invited all NHS staff to take part in the new initiative. The aim is to establish a network of champions who are committed to promoting a more inclusive and diverse healthcare service.
The CSP Equality and Diversity Group wants the society’s members to join the campaign.
‘We would really encourage members to sign up as champions to highlight equality and diversity challenges and to promote areas of good practice and equality and diversity initiatives that have been developed in their workplaces,’ said Karen Atkinson, who chairs the CSP Equality and Diversity Group.
‘This is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and to show how physiotherapy can contribute to the equality and diversity agenda. Strategies put in place to support patients, relatives, colleagues and members of the public who come from traditionally disadvantaged and excluded groups invariably benefit everyone.’
The launch of the new campaign coincides with the NHS Employers’ Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week, which runs from 21 to 25 May.
