I’d like to return to work part-time after my maternity leave but my managers say it’s not possible.
Can they do this?
There is no automatic right to return to work on part-time hours after maternity leave.
However, your employer has a legal obligation to consider any request you make for reduced or flexible working hours.
If it is not possible to accommodate your request, the employer must provide written, objectively-justifiable reasons for this.
If you are not satisfied with the response from your employer, or would like more detailed information on maternity leave, please refer to the CSP information paper Maternity Leave and Pay.
