Dean has worked in a variety of clinical settings including a national sports council, a chronic pain centre and in occupational health. He has an advanced clinical qualification in assessing and treating the muscles, joints and nerves in the spine and limbs. Dean has also worked as a University Lecturer and has over 14 years experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He also works for the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) as a Senior Research Design Adviser and recently wrote Moving Forward – Physiotherapy for Musculoskeletal Health and Wellbeing https://discover.dc.nihr.ac.uk/portal/search/themedreviews for the NIHR Dissemination Centre. The research featured shows that physiotherapy services can improve patients lives and reduce healthcare costs. His PhD thesis investigated the awareness of posture and movement in people with and without low back pain, and his MSc research thesis investigated the use of manual therapy diagnosis in low back pain. He has received prestigious research grants and presented and published research nationally and internationally.
