This E-BPA course is designed for therapy assistants and technicians working with children with cerebral palsy. It aims to offer a greater understanding of how children can be treated and the clinical reasoning underpinning the treatments. It consists of lectures, case presentations, practical sessions and video analysis. Handouts and references will be provided.

    Course Aims

    Following completion of the course delegates will have an improved understanding of:

    • The clinically observable motor disorders of cerebral palsy and how they affect activity and function
    • The motor disorders of cerebral palsy and linking them to treatment modalities
    • The role of treatment adjuncts including botulinum toxin
    • The difference and importance of constraint induced movement therapy
    • Motor development and how it can guide clinical practice
    • What may be limiting motor development
    • The role of treatment, the environment and equipment to achieve targeted activity
