THE ROLE

A unique opportunity has arisen to join the Women’s and Girls’ department of Rangers Football Club as a Women’s First Team Physiotherapist.

The purpose of this role is to assist in the management of the sports medicine strategy and provide an elite level of medical provision for the Women’s team and Girls’ academy. The role requires the delivery of treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries for all players across the Women’s First team while overseeing and supporting the Girls’ academy.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • To deliver the sports medicine support strategy for all age groups in the Women’s and Girls’ programme (focusing on the Women’s team) providing high quality medical provision to the players at Rangers Football Club.
  • Provide regular updates to the Women’s First Team Doctor and Lead Academy Physiotherapist
  • As part of a multi-disciplinary team, regularly contribute to the departmental strategy to ensure best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in ensuring the department attains criteria in line with the club’s performance strategy and football governing bodies.
  • Liaise daily with other Girls’ academy Physiotherapists, Sport Scientists and Coaches to ensure effective communication between departments.
  • Attend weekly performance meetings with Women’s and Girls’ staff.
  • Attend weekly Sports Medicine meeting with Women’s and Girls’ and Academy medical staff
  • Ensure that the management of injuries meets elite standards and the club’s commitment to players through best practice in recognition/diagnosis, documentation, evaluation and treatment of injures.
  • Ensure appropriate injury mitigation and player care strategies are adopted, including but not limited to: screening, testing, player and squad interventions, player and coach education, and growth-maturation based interventions.
  • Based on screening, injury history, and performance testing, develop and implement both individual and squad-based multidisciplinary interventions with a view to maximising player performance and reducing risk of injuries.
  • Database management regarding player records, injury history, statistics and progress including regular injury auditing. This should utilise the club’s on-line platform and Club Sports Medicine established guidelines.
  • Working with the Performance team to implement the appropriate rehabilitation and re-conditioning of injured players to allow safe and effective return to play as soon as possible.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement of the departmental strategy relating to individual player and squad needs including in-service training.
  • Ensure a steady communication channel to coaches, players, sports scientist and parents on player development.
  • Support players in achieving a ‘Performance lifestyle’ through player education strategies.
  • Support coaches in maximising player development through coach education strategies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the physical development requirements of young footballers including an understanding of growth and maturation in relation to females, performance, and injury.
  • Undertake personal CPD to meet the demands of the role.
  • Ensure medical equipment is at the required level and standard, up to date and in line with the club’s and governing bodies’ requirements.
  • Ensure the safe use of gym equipment for any player under your supervision.
  • To provide medical cover at home and away fixtures, where required.
  • To attend tournaments abroad as and when required.
  • To support the Women’s and Girls’ culture, core principals, aims and values.
  • Possess a flexible approach to working hours, evening and weekends and be willing to adapt.
  • To support a performance culture and maximise player potential and ensure that a common and united message is delivered to all players at all times.

THE CANDIDATE

Job Knowledge

  • Previous Physiotherapy experience
  • Graduate calibre or equivalent proven experience working within a similar role
  • Sound knowledge of Physiotherapy techniques
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapists
  • Member of The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Experience of working in full time football or other sport is essential
  • Understanding of the physical development requirements of young athletes
  • Understanding of growth and maturation in relation to females, performance and injury
  • IT skills to a high level of competence: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Eligible to work in the UK
