Job Description

Dorset Orthopaedic have an exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapist who is seeking to work in amputee rehab to cover one of our Midlands clinic Physiotherapy roles during a maternity leave.

The main role of the successful candidate would be to provide 1:1 residential rehabilitation alongside the Prosthetists, Orthotists and other Physiotherapists. This consists of a full musculoskeletal screening, compiling a detailed problem list and goal setting to allow for treatment planning and providing appropriate rehabilitation. The candidate would be working alongside Prosthetists and Orthotists to ensure optimum set up of prostheses and orthotics for gait re-education.

A typical week with our residential rehab clients would consist of manual therapy, electrical stimulation, gait re-education, massage, exercise prescription, hydrotherapy, pain education, outdoor rehab, return to activities, balance and co-ordination training, cardio and gym training, behaviour change for health and wellbeing and measuring objective and subjective markers.

Alongside this, the candidate would be expected to see our outpatient clients for a variety of appointments such as manual therapy, gait re-education, exercise prescription, objective testing for prosthetic component trials and to write up reports of patients progress for case managers and solicitors.

A typical day at Dorset Orthopaedic Midlands clinic would consist of three 1 hour outpatient slots and one 4.5 hour intensive rehab client with a 30 minute lunch break. Patient records and note keeping are electronic and are to be completed daily.

Previous experience with amputees or Prosthetics, though desirable, is not essential, as the role requires predominantly musculoskeletal rehabilitation skills and assessment. It would be desirable for the candidate to have skills in either MSK or neuro rehabilitation with a keen desire to learn and expand their skills in these areas. Training on the various prostheses and specific rehabilitation skills can be provided.

Dorset Orthopaedic is passionate about pioneering prosthetic and orthotic rehab and we wish to recruit a Physiotherapist who is keen to uphold the standard of our service, is enthusiastic about evidence based practice and can add to the skills of the rehab team during their employment.

Essential Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC Registration

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Deliver up to 25hrs of 1:1 residential rehab a week
  • Provide outpatient physiotherapy as required
  • Liaise with management team, case managers and solicitors
  • Record and update medical records
  • Work alone and alongside a multi-disciplinary team
  • Deliver hydrotherapy sessions
  • Design and deliver appropriate exercise sessions
  • Record outcome measures and contribute to auditing, research and development
  • Have a full UK driving licence
