Salary: Self Employed - hourly rate - £80

Closing date: 24th February 2023, 5pm

Do you have knowledge of M.E, or an interest that you would like to develop in practice? Could you offer physiotherapy to someone with this chronic and disabling condition as they strive to manage their M.E?

Action for M.E. Healthcare Services is a charity committed to patient-led, whole-person care. We believe that people with M.E. have needs that can be emotional and spiritual as well as physical. Working within a multi-disciplinary Healthcare Team which currently includes doctors, physiotherapists, counsellors and chaplains, you will offer a supportive holistic based physiotherapy service to people seeking to understand and manage their M.E. Some may be newly diagnosed, others may have been ill for years or had a relapse. You will work with the client and tailor the length and delivery methods of your sessions to meet their physical capabilities. If there is a need, and with the client’s agreement, you will refer them to other specialists within the healthcare team

We appreciate that not many physiotherapist are experts in working with clients who have M.E. We are looking for someone who is interested in developing their knowledge and expertise in this area through practical experience. You may already have experience in patients with conditions such as Fibromyalgia or other chronic conditions, but a solid background of varied experience is most important. You will need to be resilient as many people with ME may have suffered years of stigma and neglect and have had negative experiences with healthcare professionals in the past. Sensitivity, empathy and a willingness to learn are essential.
