Name change signals way forward

St George’s school of physiotherapy, part of the University of London, has changed its name to the school of rehabilitation sciences to reflect developments in healthcare.

The aim of the school is to equip all those involved in providing rehabilitation to optimise recovery from injury, ill health or living with long-term condition. Head of school Iain Beith said: ‘We are not now just about physio or just about the allied health professions. We’re for the wider healthcare workforce in rehabilitation which reflects the way the health service is changing.’ Courses include an MSc in exercise for health, an MSc in rehabilitation and a foundation degree in long-term conditions. Dr Beith said: ‘Underlying the whole of this is an increase in research activity and collaboration both locally and internationally in the area of rehabilitation’.
