New resources for CSP students: confidence, voice and belonging

Ahead of the new academic year, CSP Student Support is launching new resources designed to help students build confidence, speak up and access support when they need it.

Ahead of the new academic year, CSP Student Support is launching new resources shaped around four key foundations. Shaped by student feedback and centred around the four S's of Student Support, these practical tools aim to help students feel informed, empowered and connected throughout their physiotherapy education.

Supporting students through their physiotherapy journey

Starting or returning to a physiotherapy programme can be exciting, but it can also bring uncertainty. Students are not only learning clinical skills and academic knowledge; they are also learning how to navigate complex environments, prepare for placement, ask for support, speak up when something does not feel right, and begin to find their place in the profession.

Ahead of the new academic year, CSP Student Support has developed a new package of resources for student members, shaped around the four S’s of Student Support: Support, Safety, Sponsorship and Sharing.

Together, these foundations reflect what students need to feel confident, informed and connected throughout their physiotherapy education.

Support

Support is about helping students know where to turn. Student life can involve academic pressures, placement challenges, personal circumstances, uncertainty around processes. CSP Student Support offers a confidential space for student members to talk through concerns, consider options and identify possible next steps.

Safety

Safety is about helping students feel able to learn, participate and raise concerns in environments that should support their development. Students may face bullying, discrimination, harassment, poor placement experiences, or situations where they are unsure whether something is acceptable.

One of the key resources being launched is the confidence and voice toolkit.  The toolkit includes practical prompts, reflection activities, and suggested phrases to help students ask questions, raise concerns, advocate for themselves and seek support.

Confidence is not about always feeling certain. It is about having the tools, support and permission to participate, even when something feels difficult.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship is about opening up access, visibility and opportunity.  CSP membership is not only about  support at times of difficulty; it is about belonging to a professional community, learning from others and recognising that students have an important role in shaping the future of physiotherapy.

Through CSP networks, campaigns, student representatives, events and learning opportunities, students can develop their professional confidence and identity while building connections across the profession.

Sharing

Sharing is about ensuring student voices shape the resources designed to support them. The new resources have been developed through student conversations, advisory groups and engagement activity. Students asked for guidance that is realistic, compassionate and practical, with tools to help them navigate challenges safely and effectively.

Alongside the confidence and voice toolkit, CSP Student Support is also developing guidance on reasonable adjustments. This will help students understand how reasonable adjustments may apply in university and placement settings and how to approach conversations about support.

As the new academic year approaches, the message to student members is clear: you do not have to navigate everything alone. Whether you are preparing for placement, considering reasonable adjustments, building confidence, or unsure where to go next, CSP Student Support is here to help you feel informed, supported and heard.

What is CSP Student Support?

The CSP student support officer provides confidential support and signposting for student members. Students can get in touch to discuss issues such as placement concerns, bullying, discrimination and harassment, reasonable adjustments, academic  challenges, speaking up, or uncertainty about where to seek help.

The Student Support service does not replace university processes, workplace policies or formal representation, but it can help students understand their options, prepare for conversations and identify sources of support.  Find out more here
