CSP welcomes settled status exemption for healthcare workers

The CSP has welcomed a Home Office decision to exclude international healthcare professionals from changes to the length of time it takes to gain settled status in the UK. The Government announced the decision today.

The CSP has successfully argued that extending the time to achieve indefinite leave to remain for people already working would have been unfair and could have destabilised some healthcare services. Around a quarter of HCPC registered physios are internationally educated.

Commenting, CSP Policy Director Rob Yeldham said:

We are glad that ministers listened to our arguments and have exempted healthcare professionals from the changes. This shows the impact the CSP can have when we work with other unions through the TUC.

The CSP is part of a group of TUC unions which has been meeting Home Office ministers face to face over migration changes.
