Ideas for Frontline

Contact with readers is very important to the Frontline team and we are keen to get your suggestions for stories for the magazine, to help us keep in touch with what's going on.

So if you've got an idea for an article you would like us to consider, use the information below to submit details.

Please be aware that we cannot guarantee to publish everything. Stories may be published in Frontline and/or on this website.

News

Please let us know about any new developments in your workplace or specialist group that you belong to, or personal stories, that might interest other readers.

These could include achievements, such as winning an award, research projects, new ways of working that improve patient care, or cutbacks and threats to services.

You don't need to write the piece yourself, as we will do that, but you should give us the important details about what has happened.

This could be in the form of brief notes or bullet points, but as space is at a premium it should be kept as concise if possible, and not more than 400 words.

Please let us know about developments as soon as you can. Email details to our news team at frontline@csp.org.uk or tel 020 7306 6665 to discuss. You should include contact details, including a daytime phone number.

Fundraising events

Physiotherapists are altruistic people who are often involved in raising money for good causes. Unfortunately we do not have space to mention all of them and do not generally run stories before events.

However, we are always looking for good photographs: if you have high quality, engaging images of an event in which you have participated, particularly in unusual circumstances or surroundings, or of yourself in training for an event, we will look at the story.

The information in the paragraph above should be used to submit these stories.

Features

We are always interested in ideas for features (these are the longer articles after the news pages). Examples of good clinical practice are of particular interest. To discuss any possible ideas, contact our acting assistant editor Ian McMillan on mcmillana@csp.org.uk. Please be aware that features are planned well in advance.

Views and Opinions

We welcome contributions - or ideas for topics - to the five columns that appear on this page.

In Perspective tends to come from someone who is a member of the CSP, or of its staff, who has an expertise in a certain area. (For example, an academic talking about research, someone's experiences as a recent graduate, a staff member talking about public health issues.) It is 450 words, requires a photo of the author, and preferably should not be sent in on spec - always call the editor first to discuss your idea.

Viewpoint is a much shorter column and not necessarily by an expert - it is much more a personal opinion, though related to your work. It could be anything from juggling a career with a family through to your experience of working as a volunteer overseas. It is 350 words and requires a photo of the author. This column alternates with 2nd Opinion (see below).

2nd Opinion is the one opportunity in the magazine for a non-CSP member to comment. We welcome approaches from physio-related health or third sector organisations or any organisation that might interest our members on a professional level. We sometimes approach other organisations whose views we are keen to capture. Recent topics have included Stroke Awareness Week and the needs of asylum seekers. The column is 350 words long and requires a photo of the author. This column alternates with Viewpoint.

Legal Aid is a column aimed to provide legal advice to members about issues likely to affect them around fitness to practise. It is written by the CSP lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors, who provide advice on employment related issues. Topics covered tend to reflect themes that arise at Health Professions Council hearings. Topics can be suggested for this column but it is always written by the lawyers.

Advice Line also offers advice around professional dilemmas that members may face, from misuse of social media through to ensuring their conduct falls within the CSP's standards of professional practice. It is usually written by one of the CSP's in-house professional advisors but they are always open to suggestions for content.

In case of any suggested topics for any of the above, or if you'd like to submit an article for this section of the magazine, please contact the editor, Lynn Eaton, at: editor@csp.org.uk.

Photographs

We are keen to use pictures provided by readers. Digital images should be 300dpi, a minimum of 10cm wide and sent as jpegs. If the files are over 4mb, please use our web-based upload site

using csp and upload860 as username and password respectively and follow the onscreen instructions. If you do submit pictures, please let us know who or what the pictures are showing, and whether we need to credit anyone (such as a photographer or agency).

Please also make sure you have the permission of everyone in the photograph for it to be publishedin Frontline and/or on this website.

Letters

Frontline values letters from readers as an important way to stay in touch with what members think. Please email letters to talkback@csp.org.uk stating that they are for publication.

Letters should not be more than 250 words. References should only be included where essential to support a clinical argument.

References should include the following information: lead author, publication, year, volume and page numbers.

The editor reserves the right to refuse publication and to edit letters. Please include your full name, address and daytime telephone number.
