Sickness Absence Policies - Guidance for CSP Safety Reps and Stewards

In January 2008 an enabling agreement was reached between NHS employers and the NHS staff side with the intention of supporting employers and staff in the management of sickness absence & ill health retirement. This briefing paper outlines the terms of the enabling agreement and provides guidance on good practice, as well as the potential pitfalls for stewards and/or safety representatives may find when involved in reviewing or negotiating new sickness absence policies in response to the new minimum standards.
