Job Description:

A unique opportunity has arisen at Sheffield Hallam University for the two positions stated above. These developmental positions are for Chartered Physiotherapists with musculoskeletal and sports injury management experience to develop their clinical skills in multisport physiotherapy in conjunction with full-time fully-funded MSc level study. For appropriate applicants, this role will also combine with an associate lecturing position within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Lifestyle. 

Applicants must hold a U.K. recognised physiotherapy qualification, HCPC & CSP registration and have the right to live and work in the U.K.

As a Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme hub the successful candidates will deliver physiotherapy services with support of senior clinicians to TASS athletes up to international level, including: Performance Sport, Team Hallam, staff, students and external partners of the University. This role will include injury screening and delivery of prehabilitation strategies in addition to rehabilitation and return to play management of athletes across a wide range of sporting disciplines (see TeamHallam.org for non-exhaustive list of sports). Successful candidates will be required to provide multi-sport pitch-side physiotherapy at our purpose built Sports Park and hockey grounds, alongside supervising our team of pitch-side student physiotherapists. Opportunities in supporting physiotherapy students at external events, clinical educator roles and interdisciplinary teaching (TASS P/AL) within the university may also be provided or required as part of this role.

This is a unique opportunity to apply and develop your skills, experience and understanding of multisport and MSK physiotherapy, alongside development of educational, teaching and leadership skills for a range of future careers. This programme of study also aligns with the potential for membership of the MACP upon successful completion and offers flexibility regards the elective modules available, including FCP.

We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist who can demonstrate an ability to work as an autonomous practitioner, as well as both effectively and creatively in a multidisciplinary team. Good communication skills are essential for this post to facilitate effective working relationships between the clinic, TASS networks, NGBs and university academic departments.  Additionally, the successful candidates must have flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends. The opportunity to travel nationally and internationally with individual sports may also be facilitated. 

It is expected the successful candidates will have achieved or be working towards the ACPSEM Bronze Award and pitch side trauma qualifications prior to commencing these posts. Mentorship with senior clinicians to support development within the ACPSEM pathway over the duration of the post can be provided. This role requires close working with our Strength & Conditioning team, engaging in multidisciplinary CPD activities as part of this. 

Essential:

  • BSc (Hons) / MSc Physiotherapy qualification.
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP).
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC).
  • Minimum 3 years working in a musculoskeletal and/or sporting environment as a Chartered Physiotherapist (TASS P/L), Minimum 2 years for Performance Sport applicants, however >3 will be preferentially considered.
  • An understanding of current healthcare issues relating to sports physiotherapy / Musculoskeletal physiotherapy / private practice.
  • Evidence of CPD with an MSK bias.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to work independently and within the MDT.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work occasional unsociable hours and weekends.
  • Able to travel across the region.
  • Ability to educate and motivate athletes/coaches with programme adherence
  • Ambitious, innovative and pro-active with regard to their work.

Desirable:

  • ACPSEM Bronze award or higher.
  • Sports Trauma Qualification (or the ability to gain one before commencement of post as an essential criteria).
  • Experience of working with athletes / managing sports injuries at a competitive level.
  • Experience in delivering athlete / client education.
  • Knowledge of exercise prescription / strength and conditioning. 
  • Understanding of Private Practice.
  • Experience of delivering education and teaching to non-patient populations (TASS P/L post).

Further Information

Clinic hours will be delivered over 3 days per-week (20 hours).

Course fees for the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Musculoskeletal Managementwill be funded, and a bursary provided to support the successful candidates with their studentship role (£10,000 Year 1, £12,500 Year 2 pro rata).

Associate lecturing roles (TASS P/L) will require a separate application upon successful appointment to the above post and is remunerated in line with SHU AL pay scales (£45.90/hour).

Both posts will commence in September 2022 for a period of two years.
