Emma Salt is a consultant physiotherapist at Burton Hospitals NHS Trust and a member of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation’s scientific committee.

She was awarded a three-year NICE fellowship in April as part of the institute’s annual fellows programme.

‘I am really excited to be representing allied health professionals generally and physiotherapists specifically as a NICE fellow for the next three years,’ she said.

‘I hope to be a strong ambassador for musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice at NICE.’

As part of her fellowship, Ms Salt aims to establish whether primary and secondary care practitioners in musculoskeletal health are aware of NICE’s clinical knowledge summaries. They provide information about current evidence for treating conditions and guidance on best practice.

She also hopes to promote the summaries to professional groups who are less aware of them, and improve the use of summaries among existing users and patients.

NICE recruits 10 fellows each year, usually senior health and social care leaders. They act as ambassadors for the institute and their own organisations, and support NICE in the implementation of its guidance.
