Budget funding falls short and pay rise needed by all, says CSP

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has expressed disappointment at the Budget unveiled by the chancellor, Philip Hammond.

Mr Hammond announced limited new money for the NHS and confirmed only that the government would fund whatever salary increase the independent pay review body recommended for staff next year.

Claire Sullivan, director of employment relations and union services at the CSP, said:

‘Extra money for the NHS is of course welcome but it falls far short of what everyone outside of the Treasury agrees is needed.

‘The government cannot keep providing just enough to keep the lights on – the NHS must be properly supported to maintain quality care and transform services for the future.

‘This should include funding a fair pay award for NHS staff who have lost thousands of pounds in real terms pay since 2010.

‘Indeed, workers across the public sector have suffered during this period and it’s time for the government to step up and deliver a pay rise for all.’
