Physiotherapists can apply for awards from a £1 million fund for research that will improve the quality of healthcare services for people with arthritis.
This initiative will leading to improvements for people living with the pain of arthritis
The CSP Charitable Trust is collaborating with Arthritis Research UK, NHS England and other organisations to fund the awards, which will support several research projects next year.
Funding is expected to be in the region of £50,000 to £250,000 for each project, and for a duration of up to three years.
The joint initiative is open to research groups that aim to produce evidence about healthcare services for people with arthritis and other musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
Ruth ten Hove, the CSP’s head of research and development, said: ‘These awards provide a real opportunity for physiotherapists to evaluate new models of care and new ways of working that have the potential to transform the delivery of MSK services.’
The awards will focus on four major areas
- health and care service improvements
- health promotion and prevention
- health economic evaluation
- health data intelligence and linkage
Ms ten Hove advised that applications must be led by a principal investigator who is a physiotherapist and a CSP member.
‘The society would particularly welcome applications that are strongly collaborative – with participants working across different sites, settings and disciplines – and applications from primary care-based services, and from those evaluating new models of MSK care,’ she said.
Stephen Simpson, director of research and programmes at Arthritis Research UK, said: ‘We know that how people experience the health service has a huge impact on their quality of life – from referrals to accessing treatments.
‘Our ambition is that this initiative should transform the delivery of health and care services, leading to improvements for people living with the pain of arthritis.’
A workshop in London on 14 January will provide prospective applicants with further details. Interested members should email firstname.lastname@example.org
The deadline for applications is 16 March.
