Physiotherapists from East London made the most of a big opportunity to promote their profession to high profile decision makers on Monday 3 July by taking part in the East London Health and Care Partnership Launch.

Marlon Mata, Eleanor Mata and Joanna Raphael played an active role at the launch event promoting the role of physiotherapy in keeping people fit for work to a large audience which included senior managers from several CCGs, local authorities, a range of local providers, politicians and GPs. The members also took the opportunity to promote the role of physiotherapy in primary care and discussed the benefits of physios working at the first point of contact in GP surgeries and the importance of early access to rehab in the community with many of the influential event delegates.

The East London Health and Care Partnership is formed of 20 partner organisations who are working towards delivering the North East London Sustainability Transformation Plan (STP). STPs are area-based five-year plans for health and care services in England. STPs look set to be the key mechanism for shaping future health and care services and will cover whether investment in primary care will include physiotherapy and the future of rehabilitation services.

Catherine Chappell, CSP Campaigns and Regional Engagement Officer, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to support Marlon, Eleanor and Joanna to communicate the clinical and cost effectiveness of physiotherapy to influential decision makers in London. It was a fantastic opportunity and the members worked tirelessly to spread news about their profession with a focus on future investment in physiotherapy.

“I hope that other members are inspired by this because it’s essential that members tap into their local STP and seize opportunities to engage in the decision making process. The CSP Campaigns and Regional Engagement team has been set up to empower members to do just this and I invite members to get in touch if they want support or advice on promoting their profession.”
