Large number of unmet needs for stroke patients

Stroke patients face ‘long waiting times for physiotherapy’ said Jon Barrick, chief executive of The Stroke Association, at a recent London conference.

Describing the current challenges of stroke care provision, Jon Barrick said: ‘There are a huge amount of unmet needs for people living in the community with stroke care needs.’ The CSP and The Stroke Association launched the Moving on campaign in 2009. A survey carried out for the campaign revealed that 25 per cent of the 1,160 stroke survivors who were surveyed had to wait more than one month for their first physiotherapy session. More long term care and support was required and it was important that stroke care remained a national priority, said Jon Barrick.
