It’s the economy, champions

The economic argument for physical activity was the take-home message of the inaugural Move for Health champions’ conference, held in London last month.

The current cost of running the NHS is estimated at £3,000 a minute. With nearly 200 members already signed up to the champions initiative and actively promoting MFH in their community, the CSP offered the event to support champions’ CPD through exploring their role in physical activity and exercise. Highlights of the agenda included guidance on strategic planning, commissioning and health economics in light of the White Paper from Tristan Brice, Haringey’s stroke care co-ordinator and Nick Cavill, public health adviser for Cycling England and the National Obesity Observatory. Delegates also had the opportunity to network and consider core skills and outcome measures with fellow champions. To know more about becoming a MFH champion email
