Guidance out on cardiac rehab

Physios will benefit from updated guidance on  prescribing physical activity and exercise for patients who have had heart attacks.

The new guidance is one of three new publications from the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Cardiac Rehabilitation (ACPICR).

The others are an updated peer review, which provides benchmarks for the delivery of cardiac rehab exercise programmes, and guidance on the role of physios in cardiac rehab.

The guidance also includes new core competencies.

These have been produced by ACPICR with the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation exercise instructor network and the British Association of Exercise Sciences.

Michelle Wright, co-chair of ACPICR, says the new competencies give a detailed framework for assessment and are designed to ensure best practice.

ACPICR members will receive hard copies of the new documents.

They are available online at: www.acpicr.com/publications
