The CSP has pledged itself to work towards improving the quality of life for people with dementia.
The Society is one of 45 organisations to sign up to the National Dementia Declaration for England. The Dementia Action Alliance, launched in London last month, has set out a series of action plans to be implemented over the period up to 2014. The declaration outlines what Alliance members need to do to improve the quality of life for people with dementia. CSP professional adviser Priya Dasoju emphasised the importance of raising awareness of the role physiotherapy can play: ‘A growing number of physiotherapists are involved in mental health services and these specialist physiotherapists can make a difference.’ CSP is to produce a set of resources aimed at delivering better outcomes for people with dementia. These will include guidelines for referrers and commissioners, information for carers and educational tools outlining the specialist needs of dementia care.
