‘I work in the community. What’s happened to mileage rates?’

A new agreement for the reimbursement of travel costs for NHS staff came into force on the 1 July.

The new arrangements, agreed by the NHS Staff Council, saw the introduction of a single mileage rate of 67p a mile which will apply to all business miles travelled up to 3,500 with a reduced rate of 24p a mile thereafter.

This rate applies to all cars irrespective of engine size.

Other key changes include a payment of the full rate for training travel and an increase in the mileage rate for pedal and motor cycles.
