‘I think I’ve been paid too much by my employer. It’s their fault so can I keep the money?’

The first thing to do is to clarify exactly how much you have been overpaid by and over what time period.

You will usually have to pay back some or all of the money depending on the reason for the overpayment.

Your employer has an obligation to negotiate an acceptable period for you to repay the amount which does not cause you undue hardship.
