In this workshop you will learn the movements called the Baduanjin Qigong.
It is a low-cost activity that does not require equipment, it can be done anywhere, at any time, and the movements are easy to learn.
There are many articles and research papers on the effectiveness of this traditional Chinese Qigong exercise, which is characterised by the interplay between symmetrical physical postures and movements, and breathing exercise. The purpose of the workshop is to enable you to incorporate these exercises appropriately within your clinical or exercise environment. You will learn how to teach these movements safely and adapt appropriately for your participants.
It can also be incorporated into a rehabilitation environment as part of an existing treatment plan. Similarly, because of its simplicity, certain aspects of this Qigong program can also be prescribed to patients as a self-care/home activity.
This will be taught using video conferencing technology using Zoom.
The formal training will be split into six, four-hour sessions with theory and practical in each scheduled over three consecutive weekends. In addition to this there will be a one-to-one tutorial session which will be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
There will be an introduction to Medical Qigong and the history.
An appropriate and relevant association with Anatomy, Physiology and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Practical learning of the eight movements.
Demonstrating these eight movements.
Discussion about teaching methods and teaching safely.
Practical adaptations for teaching safely.
Each participant will understand the movements and how the Baduanjin Qigong can be an effective exercise in healthcare.
You will develop how to deliver this set of movements safely for your participants/patients.
This will be a good introduction to Qigong and a foundation to other Medical Qigong and Tai Chi exercises.
Workshop participants will be expected to participate in group discussions.
Discussion led modules are designed to challenge participants to think about the key information for that topic.
Practical modules are designed for the participant to learn and improve their skills to a safe level of competency.
Evaluation will be throughout the six sessions and the tutorial, and there will be some preparation and/or post session study required.
What to wear?
Please wear flat trainer style shoes that are suitable for exercise. There are many reasons as to why Qigong is always performed in shoes which will be discussed in the safety module.
As there will be practical and theory sessions it is important to wear comfortable layered clothing.
