What A Sports Doctor Can Do For You by Dr Leon Creaney, Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine
Historically, family doctors, therapists and other consultants refer patients with sports injuries to surgical specialities, however up to 90% of musculoskeletal conditions are treated non-operatively. As Physicians, Sport & Musculoskeletal doctors specialise in the non-surgical treatment of conditions, and work very closely with surgeons to optimise patient selection for surgery. If your patient needs a diagnosis and treatment plan for their sports injury, is looking to prevent future injuries or would like specialist advice in training plans, then this is when the Sports Doctor has a role. Dr Creaney's talk will also cover the main conditions successfully treated by sports doctors and demystifies how a consultant physician with MSK / sports speciality can fit into your patient’s treatment plans.
