The campaign is led by GlaxoSmithKline, Official Laboratory Services Provider for London 2012, and has the backing of many patient and stakeholder groups from across the UK.
Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ‘Your Personal Best’ aims to inspire the 7.78 million people in the UK aged over 55 with long term health conditions to lead a more active lifestyle and to set personal activity goals to help them achieve their personal best in the year of the 2012 Games.
Over the next year the campaign will promote the importance of keeping active and will highlight how physical activity can make a significant difference to health and wellbeing whilst easing symptoms.
Chair of CSP Council, Dr Helena Johnson said:
'The Your Personal Best campaign provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the vital work physiotherapists do to support patients with long term health conditions and to highlight how everyday activities and physical activity can improve their quality of life.'
The campaign offers physiotherapists some additional tools to motivate patients to engage with physical activity. Visit www.yourpersonalbestcampaign.co.uk for more information.
The campaign also aims to encourage friends, families and carers to support people living with long term health conditions to achieve a more active lifestyle.
In addition to the CSP, the campaign is supported by the following patient and healthcare professional groups:
- Allergy UK
- British Lung Foundation
- National Osteoporosis Society
- National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society
- Parkinsons UK
- Princess Royal Trust for Carers
- Royal College of General Practioners
- Royal College of Nursing
- SANE

Alongside the tracker, you can also access online fitness training plans, video classes and workouts if working out appeals to you and you have discussed your physical activity plans with your physiotherapist - or other qualified healthcare practitioner.
