Ready for Market - Information technology

File 217878

Against a background of constrained finance and increasing demand for healthcare it is important to be able to clearly demonstrate the positive impact of physiotherapy on the health and wellbeing of our service users.

Optimising information technology to produce good quality data enables commissioners, managers, service leads and staff to accurately access a service’s clinical and cost effectiveness.

Additionally, government policy indicates that:

  • Allied Health Professional (AHP) referral-to-treatment time will be included in the commissioning dataset by 2014
  • By 2015 AHPs must report success rates, and patients will have access to their GP patient records
  • SNOMED CT will be the mandated terminology system for the NHS
  • A paperless NHS will be created by 2018 with electronic referral, patient notes and transfer of information between professions and organisations to facilitate integrated care
