Research Excellence Framework 2021: expert panel nominations

Put yourself forward for an expert panel position as part of the Research Excellence Framework 2021.

File 221061We are inviting expressions of interest from suitably experienced members who wish to be nominated for the positions below:

  • additional main panel members (with expertise of leading, commissioning or making use of interdisciplinary research, leading research internationally, or senior level experience in the commissioning, use or wider benefits of research)
  • sub-panel members and assessors (including practising researchers, individuals with expertise in commissioning, applying or making use of research, and interdisciplinary advisers).

The panels will carry out two phases of work:

  1. during 2018: to define in detail those aspects of the criteria and working methods that are specific to the panels.
  2. from late 2020 to late 2021: to assess submissions and deliver the assessment outcomes.

To make your expression of interest please send the following to by 9am GMT on 11 December 2017:

  • a copy of your own CV

Assessment process

  • All expressions of interest will be assessed against the criteria given in the application form by a panel of CSP research and development staff and members.
  • Applicants will be informed of the outcome in the week commencing 18 December.
  • We will nominate all successful applicants by 20 December 2017.
  • Nominations will be assessed by HEFCE. HEFCE will notify applicants of the outcome of nominations and will ask all applicants to complete equal opportunities monitoring information.

There is no limit on the number of members that we can nominate, and we encourage a wide range of members to cover the full breadth of CSP research interests.

We are seeking expressions of interest from a diverse range of backgrounds, institution types and geographical regions. We particularly welcome expressions of interest from candidates from groups previously under-represented on assessment panels, including women, people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, and disabled people.

We welcome expressions of interest from new potential REF panel members as well as from those with previous experience.

REF panel secretariat secondment opportunities

HEFCE are seeking to appoint, on a secondment basis, up to ten panel advisers and up to thirteen panel secretaries to work with the REF Team and the expert panels. The advisers will provide high-quality, dedicated secretariat support and procedural guidance to one main panel, and a group of sub-panels through the criteria-setting phase of the REF.

The application deadline is noon on 28 November.
