Research networks

There are many different groups across the UK supporting research in the profession. Networks can provide advice and assistance to individuals wishing to use research in their practice, or to undertake research themselves.

Council for Allied Health Professions Research 

The Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) is a UK wide collaboration of all Allied Health Professions (AHPs) which seeks to:

  • Provide one voice for AHPs on research matters
  • Strengthen research capacity and capability of AHPs
  • Raise the profile of AHP research
  • Increase opportunity for collaboration and partnership 

The Council is comprised of :

  • a strategically focused central committee 
  • a UK wide regional hub network focused on capacity building and 
  • a professoriate.

iCSP research network

More than 5,000 CSP members use the iCSP research network to post discussions, news and resources related to every aspect of research.

The network offers fortnightly dedicated bulletins to keep members up-to-date on the latest activity and contributions.

NIHR Clinical Research Networks

The NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) provides support to individuals undertaking clinical research in the NHS setting and can help with the planning, setting up and delivery phases of research studies.

This includes providing funding streams to research studies that aim to ‘benefit NHS patients and improve the health service’ and can also help accessing groups and participants for inclusion in your study.

NIHR Research Design Service

The NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) provides specific support in developing and designing high quality research proposals.

In particular, the RDS offers advice preparing grant applications, including statistics, quantitative and qualitative research techniques, clinical trials, evidence synthesis, health economics, epidemiology, public and patient involvement, ethics and governance.

There are ten NIHR Research Design Service, one in each Strategic Health Authority within England.  Each Service has a website which contain a wide range of useful resources.
