The CSP Charitable Trust is pleased to announce additional funding for 2012 to support research in Neurology and Service Delivery.

These two key research areas were identified by the CSP Research Priorities Project.

Full details of each award scheme, along with the guidance notes and outline application forms, can be found below.

Neurology: 200k award

The Charitable Trust is seeking to fund a research project based around the top Neurology Research Priority Topic.

The project should address one or several aspects of the following research priority topic:

‘What is best practice in the rehabilitation of the upper limb in patients with stroke with respect to timing, content and dosage?’

It is also essential that cost effectiveness, where appropriate, and impact of the research is included within the proposal.

Projects will be evaluated on the scientific quality of the submission and we will accept innovative project proposals within the aspects of the priority topic outlined above.

Neurology award: Process for proposal selection

Outline proposals will be checked to ensure that they fit with the scope of the project and adhere to the guidelines of application. Those shortlisted are invited to submit a full proposal.

The scoring criteria used to assess proposals consider:

  • The quality of the proposed research and scientific rigour and track record of the research team
  • Overall value for money of the proposed research
  • The potential impact of research results

The outline application deadline is 2 April 2012. Please download the four Neurology award documents from the bottom of this webpage.

Service Delivery: 100k award

We are seeking to fund service delivery research which helps to develop our understanding of service delivery in line with the CSP Research Priorities Project 2011.

The project should address one or several aspects of the following research priority topic:

‘What are the benefits, cost-effectiveness and long term impact on patient outcomes of delivering 7-day physiotherapy services within secondary care?’

Partnership between researchers and service providers is encouraged and may be in the form of a co-applicant which will facilitate the use of the service evaluation outputs in practice or co-opting service providers onto advisory or steering groups etc.

Part of the contribution could be to enable access to organisations and ensure the research findings are used.

A statement of support from physiotherapy service providers would provide evidence to demonstrate their involvement.

It is essential that cost effectiveness and impact of the research is included within the proposal.

Projects will be evaluated on the scientific quality of the submission and we will accept innovative project proposals within the aspects of the priority topic outlined above.
