Help protect patients in the Irish republic

In the UK ‘physiotherapist’ and ‘physical therapist’ have been protected titles since 2001. This means anyone who uses this title must be registered with the HCPC and is obliged to adhere to their standards of practice.

In Ireland, the professional body, the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) has worked hard for may years to protect the title for the profession. Up to date, anyone can practise as a physiotherapist or a physical therapist and use the respective titles.

With the current petition the ISCP is trying to make sure both titles are protected in one register to avoid any loopholes when registration becomes compulsory for any physiotherapist practising in Ireland.

To raise the profile of physiotherapy and support our colleagues in Ireland in achieving the same protection of the professional title by signing the petition.
